Rising Wedge
ChartBearishReversalReliability:
Two up-sloping trendlines that converge; despite rising prices it is usually a weakening structure that reverses lower.
Description
Both highs and lows rise, but the lower edge is steeper, narrowing the range. It appears in uptrends (reversal) or downtrends (continuation).
Market psychology
Each up-leg weakens and momentum contracts, showing buyers are tiring even as price still edges higher.
How to trade
Wait for a close below the lower edge; the target is often around the base of the wedge. Momentum divergence reinforces the case.
Confirmation
A close below the lower edge, often with volume fading inside the wedge then rising on the break.
